Help With Some New Books

Hi everyone... right now I'm just starting to work on some new books. They won't be huge books like Harry Potter, but they will be quite big and they will have a few chapters.

There are going to be human characters in the books - some young and some old. There are also going to be some animals in the books. When I say animals, what I actually mean is dinosaurs. There are going to be lots of dinosaurs... They won't be cute dinosaurs like the ones in Slip and Slide and Rocky Ravine, that I wrote about last year - they are going to be real dinosaurs.

I'm not sure which dinosaurs will be in the books - so perhaps you can help me.

If you could travel back in time, what dinosaur would you like to see?

Or, to make it even easier - what is your favourite dinosaur?

Can you tell me what you like about it the most?

    1. Hi... thank you for letting me know. I think that T.rex might be the most popular one. It will be interesting to find out.
What do you like most about it?
Is it because it's big and has very sharp pointy teeth?
I think that it will be a good dinosaur to put into one of the books.

    1. Hi... That is the second vote for the T.rex (I think that might be the most popular) and 1 vote for a Spinosaurus. I think that the Spinosaurus is very intersting. There fossils have been found in Africa and palaeontologists think that they often lived near water so they could catch fish as well as other dinosaurs. Fossils of another kind of spinosaur - a Baryonyx - have been found in Britain. They would be great in one of the books.

And what would you do if you saw one?

    1. Hi Ezra, it's great to hear from you. Thank you for letting me know which dinosaur is your favourite. The Tyrannosaurus rex is a very popular dinosaur. People once thought that all dinosaurs has scales - a bit like lizards. But now we know that some dinosaurs had hairs or feathers. It is thought that the T.rex had tufty hair on its head and along its back.

    1. Hi Vogue - thank you for leaving a message and letting me know that you do not have a favourite dinosaur. That is very interesting to hear. The good thing, is that you probably won't ever meet a prehistoric dinosaur so you have nothing to worry about.
In the books I am going to write, the children go back in time so they come face to face with dinosaurs. I think it would be good if one of the children in the book does not have a favourite dinosaur because they are afraid of them too.

    1. Hello Charlotte, and thank you for leaving a message. It is interesting to hear that you do not know much about the Tyrannosaurus rex but that it is still your favourite. I think that the T.rex is probably the most famous dinosaur.
It ate meat and had 60 teeth...
They hatched from eggs (all dinosaurs hatched from eggs)...
Their fossils have been found in Canada and the USA...
I think that the T.rex will be in the first book :-)

  8. I would like to see the Mosasaurus because they lived in the ocean which means you could sunbathe on the sand without anything bothering you.

    1. Hi Bonnie, thank you for leaving a message. It's great to hear from you. It is vry intersting that you have chosen the Mosasaurus which lived in the ocean. I love your reasons for choosing it too.
The Mosasaurus isn't actually a dinosaur, but it did live at the same time as the dinosaurs. It's actually a water living reptile (dinosaurs lived on the land).
But... in my books I will be having other creatures too, and I think that it would be good to have a Mosasaurus. I am not sure how I will do that though. Perhaps the chilren will go on a boat or in some kind of submarine.
Hmm!!! I will have to think about that.

    1. Wow! Hi Amelia... that's an interesting book to read. I hope that you enjoy it. I don't think I've ever seen that being read in a classroom - your teacher obviously loves books and a good story.
I will answer your question about thinking of new characters in a seperate post in the diary as soon as I can - so keep coming back to look. That is a good question.

    1. Hello Harper and thank you for letting me know what your favourite dinosaur is. That's another vote for the T.rex.
I think that my favourite is the Diplodocus (or the Brachiosaurus) - any of those really big Sauropod dinosaurs with the long necks). I like giraffes too so perhaps that is why I like them.

    1. Hi Gracie and thank you for leaving a message. It is intersting to hear that you do not really like dinosaurs. I wonder if boys like them more than girls do?
Pterodactyls are a type of flying reptile that lived at the same time as dinosaurs. I will definitely be putting some of them in my books. I do not think they will be very nice though.
There was a pterosaur called a Quetzalcoatlus that stood at tall as a giraffe when it was on the ground. As far as we know, it is the biggest flying creature that has ever lived.

    2. I do think that boys like dinosaurs much more than girls but some girls do actually like them but i don't. I asked some pupils in my school and 11 boys and 10 girls.

    3. I think that you are right Gracie... there are probably more boys that like dinosaurs than there are girls that like them. I have decided that in my book, one of the girls will not like them because she has always thought that they are boring. I think she will change her mind about them being boring though.
I also think that one of the boys will not like them quite as much as he did. He will realise how scary some of them were.
